a walk in the park

A few hot days earlier this week necessitated a walk in Forest Park. Getting under the trees, down in the valleys where it's cool(er) and it smells of lingering moisture and the decaying of leaves. We saw one small patch of water in a ditch, a few different kinds of berries (including some thimbleberries) and numerous slugs (what would a hike be without those). This sure is a beautiful "backyard".

I'm not sure exactly how far we hiked, although we were out for two and a half hours. And my little Mowgli-boy hiked the whole way, stopping many, many times to throw sticks, of course! It wasn't until the very end when he started saying, "This is a long trail!"
