Africa and community

Just a bit of a shout-out to my friend Tiffany who is over in Africa right now. She is doing some volunteering with environmental education, among some other things. She is also working on an idea, community-supported volunteerism which is pretty much what it sounds like: those who can support those who want to work do so, creating a communal effort toward volunteering.

Anyway... Africa. A place in and of itself. So much going on over there all the time and yet, such amazing senses of community as well. Community is so important and we all are part of one, the world community. All individual communities are intertwined to make one large one. It's easy to forget this or not really want to pay attention to it. Paying attention might mean having to make different choices. Yet it's important not to forget our interconnectedness. It binds us together always. Our choices make us stronger together or weaker together. Always, though, together.

In a recent post  Tiffany mentioned meeting someone working for change in Cameroon. His organization, Better World Cameroon , is working to better his community. One day at a time. One person at a time. One influence at a time. With so little of the amenities we have so easily here, he is working to better his community.

Let us all work to better our communities. Whether it's smiling at a stranger, starting an non-profit organization, volunteering, learning something new or being less judgemental of those we don't understand, let's all work at bettering our communities. One person at a time. That's where it starts.
